Someone described this as a poetic horror fairytale and I think it is the best description I've seen in a while.

Khaw's writing does not resonate with me, however. It is my 2nd read from them, the first one being Nothing but Blackened Teeth, and I find their stories could benefit from being longer, as a lot gets lost in the lush and poetic prose.
