All the Birds in the Sky by Charlie Jane Anders

2.0

man.... man.... this one started out alright with kids and talking birds and an easy writing style so i was just along for the ride, until i started getting a really off vibe about it which just got worse as the book went on.

Spoileri just hated all of laurence's parts after the timeskip. i really did not like him at all and I hated the way it described him thinking about patrica and other women in his life. I mean there could be a point there to make but I never got the impression you were supposed to be judging him that harshly??? also their sex scene was terrible and i was especially creeped out by all the cameras watching them ESPECIALLY after peregrine was like "oh yeah you're like my parents ;)" WHYD YOU WATCH THEM HAVE SEX THEN

i feel like there were some genuinely interesting ideas in here but they were just skipped over and had minimal substance.

in reading the acknowledgements i realized with horror that this author is dating (married to?) annalee newitz and i HATED the one book of theirs i read and in learning this a lot of pieces fell into place. i will say i think this was a better book The Future of Another Timeline even though I think I rated them both 2 stars

MOST IMPORTANT TAKEAWAY OF THE BOOK: non-ironically used the word "squicked" which was an instant 2 star rating
