Othello by William Shakespeare
4.0
[second read, first was in 2011]
odd to read/watch through knowing the end already - watched the 1981 William Marshall along with a script read.
compare real-time loss of agency with immediate stripping in Verdi Otello - what does this say about respective ideals towards race? in the reverse, Verdi/Boito omit all but one of the racially-charged/animalizing insults. what does this say?
fuck do i love Shakespeare, but this isn't my favorite tragedy. less rewarding to watch a clear villain win.
