The Fire Starters by Jan Carson
5.0
This was... so good. I couldn't even mark quotes as I went because all of the prose stands out. The magic is intriguing but not overbearing, with a lovely Greek component. The social and political tensions are palpable. The focus on fatherhood is complex and intense. The only thing that could possibly have improved this experience would've been reading it during a summer heatwave or even in Belfast itself.
