4.2 spoilers! Gave great onsight and statistics about womanhood in South Korea. The book felt “dry”, unemotional, but not in a boring way, in a clinical way. And the end of the book solidified that for me. I think this book did a good job or opening a window into what it’s like to experience misogyny and the questions you ask yourself about why (why have you done this to me? Why have I allowed it? Why have I done this to others too?). In that sense, I can imagine it would be very powerful but not overwhelming in the way it was written. I see a parallel to the Barbie movie here in the sense the book toes a line of not being too radical why aiming to center feminist thoughts and inspire more investigation. I also really like the way it ended, with male doctor’s perspective of I didn’t realize women experienced this but also still being misogynistic/patriarchal. I enjoyed it and learned a lot. I didn’t love but would recommend, and I recognize I’m not really the intended audience. I wish there had been more focus on her present day issues but I understand the book was a look back mainly. I also prefer more emotional first person narratives, but again, I think the book intended something more nuisanced than that.
