Country by Danielle Steel
5.0
Let's be honest. Even though this is a DS book, I wasn't really going to read it. I am not a country person by any means. I don't listen to country music. I don't go to county fairs. I don't do the whole cowboy books with the flannel. None of that intrigues me. But my mom was listening to this on an audio book (which was being read by a guy. I'm not sexist but the main character is a female. You think they would have a female read the book. But what do I know?) and I found that I was really interested in the story.
So I gave the book a try. I read it in a day, that is how much I loved it. I soaked up the story and everything about it. I loved the plot. I loved Stephanie and Chase. I just loved everything.
The story is about Stephanie. She is in this marriage with an awful guy. Only stays because of the kids. I commend her for this. Her husband dies while they and her friends are on a ski trip. Suddenly, she has to live the life of widow and be by herself. Her kids aren't helpful either. They treat her just so awful after their father dies, even though their father was never there. I hated that part.
Stephanie eventually meets Chase Taylor, who is a massive country star. Hence why the book is called Country. Anyway, if you have read any of DS's novels, you can probably guess what happens. DS is predictable in that way. Not that there is anything wrong with that.
I don't know what it was about this book but it just seriously hooked me. I couldn't read fast enough. DS kept leaving little cliff hangers throughout this book and I just had to know what was going to happen.
If I could have any complaint about this pretty much perfect novel, it's that the kids were really awful. Lately, a lot of DS's books have had children that were just rotten and spoiled. They treat the parent or parents awfully. They got more pissed than they should when their parent starts dating or does something for something for themselves. That is just the one thing that really irks me while reading these books.
I really suggest that everyone reads this book. It's a great introduction to a DS book if you have never read one of hers. It's a great book if you are a long time fan of her. It's just a really great book to read in general.
