Overall Thoughts:
⁕ I have such mixed feelings on the characters. Fleetwood is written well, but gosh was she annoyingly classist and petty at points. On the other hand, her husband Richard is a perfectly despicable Villian, but Halls lets him off waaaay too easy in the end.
⁕ Everyone keeps saying this is a feminist text — BUT IT’S NOT. It pits the main character against other women, doesn’t hold one of the most sexist characters accountable, and almost suggests that some of the “witches” deserved to be persecuted!
⁕ I wanted more magic! More lore! The familiars were hardly touched on at all, despite them being the LITERAL TITLE OF THE BOOK.
