The Skunks is a delightful slice-of-life novel that feels ripped from the pages of main character Isabel's journal. Firmly in the no plot/just vibes camp of literary fiction, the novel follows Isabel as she has a (mostly) uneventful summer observing skunks, house-sitting, flirting, and worrying about her future. Isabel's ongoing post-grad existential crisis took me right back to the same era of my own life. Sometimes change is almost excruciatingly gradual & sometimes you never know what you want from life. That's just essential early 20s angst. I do think, though, that other young recent grads would appreciate this book even more than I did - since I graduated university a decade ago.
