book lovers takes the small town love story trope and flips it in the best way. nora is a career-driven literary agent living in nyc who has agreed to go on an extended trip to a small town with her free-spirited younger sister. she doesn't expect to see charlie, a widely known cutthroat editor, on her trip. and as someone who is always prepared for anything thrown at her, nora has to try to roll with the punches when she and charlie end up working on a book together.

to me, this story focuses on three main loves in nora's life: her sister, books, and (eventually) charlie. she attempts to navigate her life in a compartmentalized manner, hoping that if she carries on this way, she can continue to have everything she ever wanted. but it's not that simple.

i loved this book because the way emily henry writes the
"third act breakup" is entirely different than any other romance i've ever read. it's poignant and painful, and more than anything it's relatable. i was able to empathize with nora as she realizes she has some tough decisions to make regarding her career and the people she loves. henry also resists the way this trope is traditionally written by giving nora the spotlight, instead of the spotlight shifting to the love interest.

i loved these characters, loved the writing, and cannot get over how much it made me feel.
