Sheets by Brenna Thummler

Sheets written & illustrated by Brenna Thummler (Sheets #1)

What a brilliant way to portray death, loss, grief, loneliness! 13-year-old Marjorie Platt is dealing with her mother’s accidental death by drowning while trying to keep her family together. She is running the family’s laundromat by things start becoming disarrayed when she thinks her laundromat is haunted by Wendell, a lost ghost. As he tries to make things right, the two realize they have a lot more in common that they realize and a friendship bloom. Marjorie discovers the sheet wearing ghost was an 11-year-old boy who also had an accidental drowning.

Thummler is able to convey sorrow and heartwarming moments through her illustrations, simple dialogue and the alternative perspectives of the 2 main protagonists. This graphic novel is wholesome & sweet. I especially loved the unexpected & touching twist to the ending.

The sequel called “Delicates” is published on March 16, 2021 and I’m excited about it! It deals with different set of delicate issues.
