Tomatoes for Neela by Padma Lakshmi, Juana Martinez-Neal
5.0
I loved this book, not only because tomatoes are my favorite to grow and I can relate to the sentiment of preserving them to be enjoyed in the wintertime, but also because this story has beautifully lush illustrations and language. The artwork is excellent and I love the many details that invite further conversations. The book sends a wonderful message about heritage, helping, traditions, and food culture. It portrays the warmth, fun, and love of learning how to cook with a parent and recipes being passed down through generations, including capturing the feeling of missing a grandmother who lives in India and looking forward to her visits. This book is also chock full of fun facts, great end notes, and two scrumptious recipes. Everyone reading this will definitely be inspired to make these recipes and eat some tomatoes!
