A Minor Chorus by Billy-Ray Belcourt
3.0
Belcourt's prose is by turns pensive and pretty, often at the same time, and this gave me fodder for thought for days. The story of an Indigenous queer person, studying for their doctorate at a university in a fairly remote Canadian province, created a mood and an alternately subtle and striking set of vignettes. A doctorate is set aside to write a novel, and a litany of interpersonal, intentional conversations and introspective thinking takes over from there. Some of them felt unfinished, appearing in my mind at times like a collage of musings, lines of poetry, and somewhat stray dialogue. Overall, a lovely read and one I'm thankful for. Will read more from this Vancouver-based writer and professor in the future.
