Finished this beautiful little book about learning to appreciate weather in all its forms - especially the British foggy, wet and cold stuff we spend at least half a year or more living in.
So beautifully written, I devoured it in a week, which is fast for me these days! Matt Gaw explores rain, fog, snow and wind in turn, appreciating each and sharing the science and the folklore around them too.
If I’d read this even just a couple of years ago I wouldn’t have resonated so much with it, but I’ve really gotten used to walking in most weathers now. Good kit makes it miles better! Waterproof shoes and jacket. Layers and thermals when it’s cold. A wool hat was a revelation. They don’t suit me but they keep me warm!
