This was an impulse read just spotted the title on Libby and thought that sounds intriguing but I think this is also an example of I should have read some reviews first.
This isn’t to say that I didn’t like it as I did find it at times interesting, the story is set in Toronto, Canada at a University Library.
When the Director is incapacitated, the acting Director Liesl Weiss discovers that a rare and valuable purchase is locked in the safe and that he was the only one with the combination when they finally get it open it is empty.
The rest of the novel basically revolves around the search for the missing book(s) and about the various personalities that work at the Library some for many years. Interspersed in between the longer chapters are shorter ones reflecting on how the staff at the Library began their careers there. It did struggle at times to hold my interest, the characters are often introverted very much caught up in their own research and often find it difficult to communicate with each other and even take an interest in each other which in itself is what the novel highlights but that nonetheless is what often makes it a dull read.
And in itself for me it did not really go anywhere or have a particular satisfying ending.
