This made the frustration of the last two books worth it, and I would recommend continuing the series even if prior books weren't everything you were expecting just to get to this point. Dickinson finally figures out how to balance plot and character to create a satisfying reading experience. I think this book and Monster actually should have been one book (that might have been the original intent before publication) because so much is left unresolved in monster that gets tied up in this book. This book also finally had some happy moments for Baru (
every scene with her parents was hilarious
), which made it feel worth all the traumatic plot that happens to Baru. I also really enjoyed Dickinson's commentary on colonialism and gender, which I felt was fleshed out in this book more than in the two previous volumes. I can't wait for the last book!
