The Holiday Swap by Maggie Knox
hopeful
lighthearted
5.0
This was a sweet book. The romance was very cozy rather than spicy. I felt like it was almost more about personal growth and sisterhood than it was the romance. I highly recommend it. And while it took place at Christmas, it didn’t feel overly Christmasy to me.
Below is my commentary from while reading. I realize now that it makes the book seem tension filled and more dramatic than cozy, but I promise the overall vibe was cozy haha
- 4% you are a moron. Why wouldn’t you tell the doctor that you can’t taste or smell?!
- 33% Austin is pissing me off. Is she really just going to let him claim that she stole his recipe?! Wtf. Obviously she didn’t. SAY SOMETHING
- 43% please tell Jakeeeee. It will make everything better. Honestly, there is no reason that a handful of the Starlight people can’t know. What do they care if it’s a different sister?
- 49% why do I feel like the grandmother knows that she isn’t really Cassie
- 61% NOOOOO JUST TELL HIM THAT YOU ARE ACTUALLY CASSIE!!!!
- 78% I’m actually really mad at Charlie for being mad at Cass. Charlie’s “career” was dead before Cass even took over. The show producers made their decision before the holiday special even began, so what Cass did pretending to be Charlie had absolutely no impact whatsoever on Charlie’s job. Charlie, on the other hand, pretending to be Cass, managed to destroy an irreplaceable aspect of a multi-generation family business and doesn’t even seem to care. She’s too busy being angry at her sister for no reason to realize that what she is so much worse. Especially because Charlie was the one who came up with this crazy scheme.
- 79% and this is even worse! THIS BAKERY LADY IS A THIEF AND EXTORTIONIST!!!
- 82% the whole concept of sourdough starters sort of grosses me out. I can’t believe this was a trend during COVID
- 99% how predictable. Someone is pregnant in the epilogue. Part of me hates it, but it’s also sweet.
- 100% a baby and a surprise wedding?! Oh my 🥹
