Transcendent Kingdom by Yaa Gyasi
5.0
This is such a different novel than Gyasi's Homegoing, but no less astounding for the change of pace. It's a slow and contemplative novel that perhaps provides more questions than answers, in the best possible way. Here we see addiction, depression, science, and God, but at the heart of it all, Gifty, who spends her career in neuroscience working to understand how her family became so broken. It's a book to break the heart, and maybe piece a little bit of it back together.
