Finally, a cosy mystery where the size of the main character is not constantly referenced and she doesn’t spend the book moaning about her weight. For that alone I feel a star is warranted!
The Great Witches Baking Show has a lot to thank Bake Off for, at least initially. However, the setting of the book really only serves as a background for the murder of one of the contestants.
The mystery itself was solved remarkably easily, but what I found more entertaining was the background to the show. The main presenters are witches and have been tasked with not interfering with the contestants unless they wish to be banished. When the body turns up I bet they wish they could have been excused that caveat!
Our main character is, though she is unaware of it, a witch and arriving at the show sets in place a number of strange events. There’s also the matter of her unknown background to keep us entertained. Not exactly memorable but a pleasant diversion.
