In her new role as Training Officer, Max has revised the curriculum so that trainees will now be participating in jumps as part of their training, jumps that are designed to test their knowledge and abilities without being life-threatening, however, this is St. Mary's!
I've found the characters in these novels just jump off the page with personalities that are easy to relate to, and in general, likeable. The humour, which is rye, self-deprecating or sarcastic, is liberally spread throughout the book and is perfectly placed to counterpoint the more serious and emotionally charged scenes and events, of which there are more than a few, the Joan of Arc one being particularly harrowing to read.
One of the joys of these books is that while they are both engaging and enjoyable they are also historically informative, so you are also learning a bit of history as you read, which as I grow older I have found myself becoming more interested in.
