The Hurricane Wars by Thea Guanzon
3.5
💜 The Hurricane Wars
✨ Reylo fanfic based
✨ Romantasy
✨ The Chosen One
✨ Enemies to lovers
✨ Marriage of convenience
✨ Southeast Asian inspired world
🚫 Instant hate and attraction
🚫 I don't know if I'll call that "spice" but yeah, there's some, I guess
🚫 Info dump
🚫 Confusing world building and magic system
🚫 Ends on cliffhanger
🚫 Colonizer/colonized 💖
So, The Hurricane Wars is yet another Reylo fanfiction. I have no problem with the FF part. Actually, I've read amazing FF in AO3. Sometimes even better than published books✨
But the thing is, it relies too much on the fact the you know the characters already 😔 There's barely any character development. And I'm a character driven reader 🫣
So, yeah, it's interesting, and has good pace, but the romance is kinda forced They go from the initial status quo to "I can't live without" in a way that gave me whiplash 🥴
Did I like it? No. But that's on me. I'm not a fan of the Reylo ship (though I'm a Star Wars gal). I don't care about the "he's so big and I'm so petite" trope. And I don't enjoy the colonizer/colonized dynamic. I didn't know it had those elements when I got the 📖 and that's totally my responsibility 😅
Do I recommend it? Yes, if you don't have issues with the tropes mentioned and you like romantasy, this is probably going to be a hit for you. I agree with the people on Goodreads saying that ACOTAR fans are going to love it.
