The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley
5.0
Jess is broke, alone, and needing a fresh start. Her half-brother Ben didn't seem enthusiastic about Jess crashing with him for a bit, but he didn't actually say no. When Jess shows up to Ben's very nice Paris apartment, he's not there. The longer he stays missing, the more Jess digs up on his situation leading to even more questions.
This is the first book I've read by Lucy Foley and it's safe to say that I loved it. It's a truly gripping read that had me bingeing it from the first few pages. The suspense from the last few chapters was absolutely amplified for me by the raging thundershowers and tornado warnings occurring in my area at the time of reading.
THE PARIS APARTMENT is so neatly written, told chapter by chapter by each inhabitant in the apartment building. Each character is more shady and suspicious than the last but you're never quite given enough context to figure out who can or cannot be trusted. This also makes it difficult to determine what's really happening behind the scenes.
This is a bit of a slow burn suspense, building up to the action and twists that are revealed towards the end. Nonetheless, it's a read that kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. I did pick up on one of the later twists before it was revealed but that didn't detract from my enjoyment. Overall, it's a dark, atmospheric, and great locked-room thriller.
