James by Percival Everett

5.0

I was excited to read this book after hearing about it on a couple different book podcasts. I’m not a fan of Huck Finn but I was very interested in hearing James’/Jim’s perspective. I struggled a bit at first because I just wasn’t that interested in Huck Finn the character. However, once James and Huck were separated and we really got to dive into James himself I became very invested. I was so impressed with the way the author used language/dialect. I ended up finishing this very quickly. We read this book for my IRL bookclub’s pick and every single one of us (7) loved this book! That never happens. It was such a great book. James, the character and the book, will stick with me for a long time.
