While simple and more YA, it was creative and interesting. I liked the adventure and journey Imani and the other characters made as she tried to unravel the story of her brother being missing. I thought the concept of not being so exclusive and considering others was well conveyed, and letting go of unjust or ignorant rules and ideals when they hurt others. “Everyone hates and distrusts what is unfamiliar to them…” and “light not shared is light diminished” describes what the story’s goal was well.
It was, however, rather annoying and naive how much Imani vacillated about Taha and forgot every observation she just catalogued. Made you want to yell at her every time she reversed course on her opinion about him.
