Keeping in mind that this story was published a quarter century prior to Stoker's Dracula, this book does not shy away from the inherent sexual issues that a vampire story requires. However, because of the time of the writing those themes are wrapped in the language of the time. I found this to be a relatively quick read and enjoyed noting the pieces of vampire mythology that have been carried forward into other works. I stumbled across this book but now may need to locate other works written by LeFanu.
