4.0
A satisfactory conclusion to a good series, so the four stars are a global rating (if I judged this book alone, I would probably give it three).
As I think back on the events of the first book, I never thought we would end up here in the final instalment. The plot was definitely creative, and we had many good characters.
I have to point out my love for Donavan: he only actually appeared in the first book, but he was always present in a way, inspiring and giving strength to Alex; it’s wonderful how I grew so attached to a character that wasn’t that present in the following books. The same applies to Zee (of course!) and Simon.
The conclusion was good, wrapping everything nicely. We had a lot of poignant and sweet moments towards the final and I ended up shedding an unexpected tear here and there.
There were a little too many near-death moments and some events seemed like a stretch, but okay. This is fiction after all, and the writer laid some okayish foundations for Furnace’s backstory.
I am happy to have finished this series, it was worthwhile.
