The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin
5.0
All of the other books can go home. This is by far the most touching, heartfelt, and moving story I’ve read.
I can’t think of words that could perfectly encapsulate this story. It starts with a man who has basically given up on life. After the death of his wife and no real connections, he just goes through the motions of life while slowly drinking himself to death. When his most prized possession is stolen and a much more precious gift is left for him he slowly starts to make meaningful connections with the other people on Alice Island and enjoying his life.
The characters are so honest and Gabrielle Zevin manages to pull visceral reactions out of you as each chapter goes by and by the last page you’ll likely to find yourself crying.
