How to Keep House While Drowning: A Gentle Approach to Cleaning and Organizing by KC Davis

5.0

Full review to come on my blog.

I followed her on TikTok before I knew she'd written a book, already putting some of her principles into action in my life. (Permission to live in a space -- and that space to look lived in, was a big one.) But then this book, now I know is her book, was also recommended a lot in neurodivergent cleaning support facebook groups, and I finally got around to borrowing it from my library. It's not often that I find myself saying this, but I will be purchasing my own copy to continue reading through whenever I need a moment of validation or self-compassion with my space.

She doesn't expect readers to "do it like me" and achieve success right out of the gate. In fact, success (like cleaning) looks different on the day to day, and even she acknowledges that what works for her right now may not in the future. She's also aware of the intersection between caring for self and caring for home as being struggle spots with neurodivergent folks, and incorporates shifting the mentality there as well to one of compassion and kindness.
