The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
Did not finish book.
Me looking at all the 5 star reviews this book has like
how?? how??
so yes i skipped to the end but i went more than half way through with the book and finally gave up at chapter 71. I can't say it was a terrible book but did it blow my mind? Nope.
That being said i think i have to give [a:Patrick Rothfuss|108424|Patrick Rothfuss|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1351307341p2/108424.jpg] props for making me think this book was going to be more exciting than it actually was. The author clearly makes you see there's more to Kvothe than meets the eye, he keeps dangling this carrot in front of you so you're like maybe i'll find out in the next chapter, but nope, nothing (big props to him for stringing me along till chapter 71)
Another problem i had with this book was the way the author kept putting in words without explaining what they were, not in all instances mind you but heck if i could notice that then it bears calling out. i mean Hello?? i don't speak made up languages. Explanation on how some of the magic worked too sometimes was just too complicated (chapter 51 was were i got really ticked off) Kvothe was explaining how "sygaldry" works and he mentions something called rune ule, rune doch, rune aru - which he eventually says is clay. he goes on to explain aru and doch don't go together (at this point we're still not told what rune doch is) but that's okay apparently cos you can add linking runes geh and teh, however to get better results it would be better to switch aru with fehr for this however you'd have to switch teh with gea and that is basically how "sygaldry" works. i mean why??
Let's not even mention the chapters that were there just to take up space hello chapter 59.
All in all this wasn't for me at all.
P.S: WHY IS IT CALLED THE NAME OF THE WIND??
