The Art Forger by B.A. Shapiro
4.0
The Art Forger is an interesting look into the world of struggling artists, art collecting, and art forgery. Though a fictional book The Art Forger centers on the infamous 1990 art heist at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum which is still today the largest unsolved art theft in history. Claire, the art forger, or copyist as she calls herself (there is a difference) gets caught up in a scheme to forge the stolen Degas from the Gardner Museum for a chance to have her own one woman art show. Though Claire’s storyline was entertaining, I found the whole process of creating age in forgeries fascinating and learned a little about how artists look at light, color, and brush strokes. Enjoyable read.
