Heaven Official's Blessing: Tian Guan Ci Fu (Novel) Vol. 7 by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu
3.0
I have been trying to gaslight myself into liking this series since volume 4, but I don't think I have it in me. Before starting this series I proclaimed that this would be my favourite MXTX series and that I would go feral for Hualian. Well, it didn't turn out that way.
The problems I had with the previous volumes continue in this one. I am sorry, but I am just unable to enjoy anything involving Hualian and it deeply hurts me. I thought it would be THE love story of the century and I would be on board with it if HC wasn't such a static character. I don't mind his devotion to a certain point, but I while reading I didn't feel like there was much else to his character. His only personality trait is being devoted to/in love with XL. His whole life revolves around him. I get why people find this attractive. I really do. I think to a certain extent it is even romantic, but if there is nothing else to a character than that....
And I also have to get it off my chest how damn rude HC is to other people. I get it when it comes to certain people of the Heavenly Realm, but Shi Qingxuan was nothing but kind to XL and HC still treats him like shit. What was up when he slapped him when they did the human array?! He really couldn't lend him his spiritual power any other way?! And XL doesn't give a care in the world. Unacceptable. In general, all the side characters got done dirty.
Something that I absolutely didn't understand is this paragraph:

Something that I absolutely didn't understand is this paragraph:
"Ol' Feng, someone like you actually knows a fine little tender-skinned pretty boy who was obviously raised in sweetness? I bet you're bullshittin' again!" It should've been funny listening to the crowd making such a big deal out of nothing, but Xie Lian could only feel upset. It had to be stated that, among the three of them, the Wind Master was the only true fine little tender-skinned pretty boy raised in sweetness.
Did I miss something? XL was a Crown Prince and ate from golden plates. What do you mean the Wind Master was the only one raised in sweetness? Does XL have amnesia or what? I actually had to send it to a friend to check if I was reading this wrong and she confirmed that she felt the same way. So, what's up with that? Genuine question.
Some other things that I have noticed throught my reading experience are:
1.) the repetitivness: such as phrases like "Xie Lian didn't know if he should laugh or cry" or the way certain situations are conducted. (see my other reviews of this series)
2.) the use of certain expressions that take me out of the story, e.g. "Don't get in my way, m'kay?" or "That was you? - Duh." or "Hey, can we talk boss man?". It didn't fit at all.
3.) misplaced humour/comedy: everytime we were in a dangerous situation Hualian would flirt or something awkward would happen. Again, I don't mind humour. It just has to be at the right time.
