Mr. Popper's Penguins by Richard Atwater, Florence Atwater

3.0

I kept thinking two things while listening to this: Why doesn't anyone know what penguins are, and does Mr. Popper possibly have an undiagnosed mental illness? (And no, I'm not making fun of mental illness- I'm saying that he makes a series of incredibly impulsive and reckless decisions with outcomes including financial hardship and jail time and leaving his family to go to the North Pole-- which made me wonder if his family and the penguins were even real?!) It's fine- kids would probably still like it, although spanking as discipline and the gender roles at play were disappointing to me.
