The Bedlam Stacks by Natasha Pulley

4.0

A fun read. I love this author's tone, and the way she uses language. Even better, I love the way she explains the intermingling of languages in a polyglot society. And those trees! Outstanding environment building. Lovely social and political commentary to boot.

I still remember being taught that Admiral Perry opened up Japan, but nothing about having shelled it. We were taught it was peaceful, with no threat of violence. Of course I should have realized how ridiculous that was, considering that they were warships, no matter what color they were painted. White for peace is a bit hypocritical when it's a warship.
Great read, highly recommended.
