Fake Dates and Mooncakes by Sher Lee

This was a cute and cozy gay teen romance. The culture and food was amazing and I learned a lot! The description of the food ugh I want to try it all!! Theo is a sweetheart and Dylan is the and Theo has my heart.

Cons: Perhaps if I was younger I’d rate it higher. Based on the cover, I thought I was going to be reading about lower 20’s or freshman/ sophomore year college students but instead they are 16/17 years old. The dialogue and pacing was off as well as the transitions between scenes (I got used to this after a while and just adjusted to realizing that ah yes another scene change has occurred…mid paragraph…). Now the dialogue honestly felt like the characters were older than they were and I really wanted to mentally age them up but that felt awkward and gross because they are minors. It was a decent debut and I’m glad I had a chance to read it. I would certainly pick up the author’s next book to see the progression in her writing.
