I received a copy of The Light of Eternal Spring by Angel Di Zhang from Penguin Random House Canada in exchange for an honest review.

"My mother died of a broken heart, or so the letter said." And so this heartbreaking and healing journey begins as one reads The Light of Eternal Spring. Amy is now a commercial photographer in New York City where she lives with her husband. When she receives said letter from her sister in China, she begins a journey through memories and grief as she makes her way home for the first time after many  years away. We are taken through moments of the past, interchanging with the present, as we come to understand how she ended up so far from her family - both literally and figuratively.

This story of leaving home and returning home as a journey of grief resonated so deeply with me. Losing a loved one when you are half a world away is a surreal experience. One in which you wake up in the morning, not quite sure if the news was real or just a dream you had. The Light of Eternal Spring captures this surreal experience so perfectly. This story will make you want to call up your loved ones. It will break your heart and leave you breathless. I loved it.
