The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman
5.0
I feel genuinely sorry for your life choices, If you haven't read this book, yet.
This book was unique and weird and crazy, it was unlike anything I have read. Neil Gaiman, created a magical world and hid great life lessons in his words in a way that only people who have the power to read between the lines would understand. The book was full metaphorical situations and events, and more than one meaning could be drived out of them. one of the quotes in the book perfectly describes the story: "you will never get any two people to remember anything the same. " similarly, you will never get two people to drive exactly the same meaning from this book and that's what makes this book so special. The book was neither a children book nor it was an adult book, it was better than that.
The book is told from the perspective of a 7 year old. When we are in our childhood we tend to believe in things that our adult self would never acknowledge. Throught the book the kid describes the events from his understanding that doesn't neccesarily mean that they happened exactly the way he explained them; the narrator has left it on the readers to construe the meaning. Howerver, the book is full of events and situations that are very relatable. The narrator assumes the role of a pedagog and give us great lessons, throughout the book, without being preachy, and every single word is articulated beyond perfection. A must read!
