A really fun satirical middlebrow novel about the British upper classes -- Edith Lavery has set her cap at a Marquess and succeeds in marrying him, but being a Marchionness is not as all what she expected.  It's all seen through the eyes of an upper class man turned actor (rather like Fellowes himself) who watches & comments on the acton & provides both context and really funny insights.   It reminded me of Angela Thirkell, albeit wth a smaller cast and not at all mean.
