TW: incest, incest idealization and attempted rape

I thoroughly enjoyed this book but if I read it again, I think id like to read the physical book. I think I missed a few things when I was listening. However the audio book reader was really really good.

I appreciated the diverse cast in the book. I think it made the whole story much more realistic. Even considering the incest and incest idealization. I dont know too much about the Donner party, but reading this made me want to read more. I'm curious to know if the legend of the lake is true or only made up for the story. Considering the ending, I love what that she ended it with Tamsen's death and the way in which she died. I would definitely say to read the epilogue because it ties up a few loose ends. You find out that few people survived, but other than that, its not necessary. You never find out what happened to Mary or the monster. Definitely a spooky read. A great read for fall or winter.
