The Rakess by Scarlett Peckham

4.0

I enjoyed the book very much. 4 out of 5 stars because Adam had a weird pregnancy fetish that just kind of gave me the willies. He also has some negative reactions to the stress Sera was under. Often saying he couldn't take her “mood” or “tantrum”. So I kinda wanted to push him over the cliff in Cornwall a few times.

I often related a lot with Seraphina, especially when she raged on page 175. This whole book was a rallying cry for women's rights and I was here for it. One paragraph especially made me sit up and think. It reminded me of when New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Arden was pregnant, (pg. 319, las paragraph before POV switch) “Nonsense. If women let the small matter of reproduction stop them from their work, I daresay the human race would die out in a generation.”

I think fans of romance old and new will like this one a lot. I look forward to hearing about the rest of the Society of Sirens.
