In the Woods by Tana French

5.0

'What I am telling you, before you begin my story, is this: I crave truth. And I lie.'
.
In 1984, three children go missing in the woods surrounding Knockaree. Several days later Adam Ryan is found clutching to a tree his shoes covered in blood. In the present, Rob Ryan (formally known as Adam) is investigating the murder of a young girl, in those same woods. Are the two cases linked?

This book is all consuming. Just know if you start this, you won't get anything done. Every moment I spent not reading this story, I was agitated, I wanted more than anything to be back in this world. French created such an amazing narrative, pacing it so beautifully in the lead upto the big reveal. This book is by no means a classic Crime Thriller, there is a fabulous mystery, but it is also so very sad. The ending broke me a little bit, I grew so attached to these vividly real characters. Did I like all the characters? No I did not, they were flawed and that made them feel all the more real. Life isn't perfect, it can't all be wrapped up with a bow on top.
