American Crucifixion: The Murder of Joseph Smith and the Fate of the Mormon Church by Alex Beam
4.0
Having grown up in the Mormon church, I knew a lot about these murders; I’d visited Nauvoo and Carthage Jail more than once. This time, it was refreshing to read an account of the events that was less colored with the lens of mysticism and legend. It was also well written, and once you get past the first couple of chapters where you are introduced to a bunch of historical characters with similar names (which I bet would feel a bit overwhelming if this were the first time you were learning about them), I think the story flows well and provides the information in an interesting and easy to follow way.
