The Love You Fight For by Brit Benson
medium-paced
5.0
I’m not a big contemporary romance reader, but when I decide to dip my toes into the genre, this is the type of book I’m looking for!
I knew that I loved Sam from “The Next Life” duet, and was anxious to read her romance story with Chris (who we are also introduced to in the duet). Sam and Chris are polar opposites, but they couldn’t be more perfect for each other.
I think a lot of women (including myself) can relate to Sam. Sam is someone that internalizes her problems and tries to take the world on herself. But what was great about this is that through her relationship with Chris, she grew and learned that she can still fight her battles herself, but still have people in her corner that she trusts if she opens up. It’s a long battle for her, but I was cheering her on every step of the way. I think we all need a “Chris” in our lives - someone that doesn’t expect to fight our battles for us, but that will “be [our] peace” when we need a place to rest.
Chris Casper has earned a place in my book boyfriend hall of fame. When I say that he’s the perfect fictional man, I’m not kidding. Chris is a fixer by nature, and he wants to fix Sam’s problems for her. But his growth in learning to take a step back and be Sam’s support was so heartwarming to see. Also, Chris can make me steak nachos or a cheeseburger any day. Or, even better, a glass of Bourbon 🥃 👀🫠!
In my opinion, “The Love You Fight For” is Brit’s best book! Tell your TBR to f*ck off and read this book today!
