It was a good development for the series, especially since Gwen finally shows that she grew a lot. The team itself seems to have developed after all of their experiences and even Logan finally found his big boy undies, after an annoying disappearance.

I felt the absence of the team though because on this occasion the focus was entirely Gwen and her family connection, her bits of bonding and the new allies, which I can only assume is meant to set the scene for the grand finale.
