My first time reading it was it was in 2014. I had read so many Poe stories at that time, and I gave it 3 stars.
Upon a reread in 2020 I changed my rating to 5 stars! This is such an amazing story! And a great one to start reading Edgar Allan Poe. The writing is magnificent. The storytelling compelling. My only issue with Poe (and the reason for my initial 3 stars is that he keeps repeating the same themes in all of his works. However, The Black Cat encompasses all those themes and thread them together perfectly. I highly recommend it, and this would be the best time to read it as Halloween is upon us!
