Circe by Madeline Miller

5.0

This is a book that has been on my shelves for a long time and I never picked it up. I’ll just add that to the list of regrets after reading this book because it was amazing. I bought it because I liked A Song of Achilles and I like Greek mythology but I wasn’t actually expecting to feel everything along with Circe. The several myths that Circe is involved in are beautifully woven in and the telling of it feels magical. The growth of Circe feels realistic . It’s not entirely linear and sometimes things happen to make it change.

Compared to The Song of Achilles, which I believe in the end it’s really about the heartbreak that happens once in a lifetime. The heart break that kills you and drives you mad. Circe, when all is said and done, I think is about the heartbreak that you endure everyday. The heartbreak that consumes you and that you can’t escape from. It’s a heartbreak that so many people can relate to and makes the character of Circe feel real.

I loved this book. I love books that grip me by the heart and refuse to let go and instead squeezes every time I read another chapter. It’s the type of book you can’t book down until you finish, even if that means you have to stay up all day and night.
