Greta and Valdin are siblings living together in New Zealand, struggling to find their own way in life, love and careers.  They both seem to have been shaped by their father's career in particular, and fell into work that they didn't love or are now questioning.  The family is a mish mash of Russian, Eastern European, Maori, Spanish and goodness knows what, and they all have their own secrets and flaws.

The chapters alternate in their POV between the 2 siblings and we proceed through a year or so in their chaotic lives.

There is no main plot point in this novel, rather the characters develop and move along their life trajectories, asking questions of themselves and others along the way, so they ultimately gain a better understanding of what they want from life and what brought their family to the state they are in now.

Very hard to pigeonhole or even really describe, this is a novel that really grew on me and is one of my favourite reads of the year so far
