3 stars? 3.5 stars? Undeniably, When the Doves Disappeared is beautifully written. The translation by Lola Rogers is just as beautiful. But I cannot deny I was confused throughout most of this novel, and the ending did not help to resolve this sense of confusion. I do have Purge by Oksanen on my shelf and I will read it, especially knowing this quality of writing can be expected like the stunning writing that is in When the Doves Disappeared.
