This is not a good book. It's 50% ragging on the shortcomings of Modern Greek (ignoring the obvious fact that the author is Italian and could therefore be critiqued on how far Italian has fallen from Latin...) and 50% overly indulgent navel-gazing about immense difficulties in the author's past like having a masculine name, the greatest hardship ever known.
