I picked this up thinking “yay, monster romance”. Boy was I wrong (at least one other review I’ve seen made the same mistake).
This is some DARK humour. It was fantastic.
Oomph, the MC Tabitha is apathetically suicidal. She’s tossed a stick of dynamite into her life, hates her user friends and has moved into a cabin in the woods with crates of wine and cartons of cigarettes to ride out her end of days.
This is a love story in a round about way. Not the monster romance I was thinking it was going to be. There are monster/MC relations, but nothing we’re privy to.
This book had the same absurd vibes of a Douglas Coupland novel. I LOVED it. It was shortish and sensational in my opinion.
TW: death, body parts, so much alcohol/ism, suicidal ideation, graphic descriptions of body horror that were both horrifying and hilarious.
Graphic: Alcoholism, Animal death, Body horror, Death, Gore, Suicidal thoughts, Suicide attempt, Pregnancy, Fire/Fire injury, Alcohol, and Injury/Injury detail
Moderate: Cancer, Violence, and Vomit
Minor: Excrement
