The Legend of Sleepy Hollow & Other Short Stories by Washington Irving

4.0

“…he would have passed a pleasant life of it, in despite of the Devil and all his works, if his path had not been crossed by a being that causes more perplexity to mortal man than ghosts, goblins, and the whole race of witches put together, and that was—a woman.”

Two odd realities that popped into my head as I read about “The Headless Horseman” for the umpteenth time:

1) the pumpkin is significant
2) Scooby-Doo (episode 5, 1976) is surprisingly true-to-form
