Rise of the Ranger by Philip C. Quaintrell
3.0
3.75 stars
So this book was good but not really good, for me.
So I think the prologue was done really good, but the coming chapters felt weak for me. I was really invested in Asher but when Nathaniel and that princess with a name that starts with an R came to the tray with Asher , I really not much enjoyed it. My least fav of POV's as you could guess was Nathaniel and that R girl.
There were dragons , which was a plus, Mermen where there too, dwarves are there but only mentioned. And there are elves and I don't see the point of having them made elves the only difference between them and humans are longevity and pointed ears. They and humans act the same. I mean they say they are elves with great wisdom and bunch of other nonsense but they act like teenagers who hit puberty , and it's meant to be funny when they act like that. The romance in this book is dog shit.
Now why i gave it 3.75 stars was there was the Assassin's were cool, Asher is cool, Gideon is good, Galanor by far the good elf with the most sense and Feylin was good too(she's my fav female character in this book, even thou only realised she was she after 20 chapters). The battle scenes were okay not the most well written battle I've come across. But the author introduces some epic moments thou. The confusion of a certain element of the prologue is cleared in the last chapter.
I was tempted to give this one a 3.5 stars, but .25 extra for dragons and Asher.
